In the 22nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Punjab Kings (PBKS) will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) tonight, i.e., April 8, at 7:30 PM IST at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
Priyansh Arya, who scored 47 off 23 against the Gujarat Titans (GT), will open the innings alongside Singh. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer, who has been in excellent form, will be the crucial batter to watch out for. Iyer had two undefeated half-centuries (97* and 52*) in his opening two games, including an astounding total of 13 sixes. Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis will be looking to accelerate the scoring in the middle overs and finish well in the death overs. Arshdeep Singh will lead the bowling attack, assisted by Lockie Ferguson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Marco Janson.
Just four matches into the IPL 2025, CSK have already rotated 17 players, in quest of the right balance. In-form batters Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra will open the innings, with Devon Conway coming in at three. Vijay Shankar has been burdened with number four yet again, and he did well in the last game, but will need top support from impact player Shivam Dube. Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have certainly been carried by the immense love and support from their fans, but on the field, both need to start delivering soon. Noor Ahmed leads the bowling attack, along with Matheesha Pathirana and Khaleel Ahmed. Veteran Ravichandran Ashwin is still trying to find his groove. Overall, the team is still trying and hopes to find the appropriate combination as the season unfolds.
Head-to-Head:
Both nations have encountered each other 30 times in the IPL, of which PBKS have won 14, while CSK have won on 16 occasions.
In their last encounter, CSK won the contest by 28 runs, courtesy of Jadeja’s crucial 43 runs off just 26 balls.
