IPL 2025 MI vs RCB: Virat, Krunal and Patidar help RCB breach Wankhede after 10 years

With this win, RCB now are third on the points table with six points.

In the 20th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Hardik Pandya won the toss and asked RCB to bat first. After Phil Salt was bowled early in the inning, Virat Kohli (67) and Devdutt Padikkal (37) had a sublime partnership of 91 runs. The duo also added 73 runs in the powerplay alone. However, the momentum shifted as MI tightened their grip, conceding just 39 runs and picking up one wicket in the next six overs. Virat, who struck eight fours and two sixes, was in fine touch throughout. After the second strategic timeout, Rajat Patidar (64) took charge, maximising the scoring potential in the final overs. Overall, the skipper blasted five fours and four sixes, which helped RCB to reach 221/5 in 20 overs. Not to forget, Jitesh Sharma (40*) also smashed a few sixes in the end.

For MI with the bat, Rohit Sharma (17) began the innings with some fireworks but lost his wicket in the second over. Ryan Rickelton (17), Will Jacks (22) and Suryakumar Yadav (28) also contributed a few runs, but none could capitalise on their start. Tilak Varma (56) was brilliant tonight as he hit four fours and four sixes. After a tough outing in the previous game, Varma showed his class and flair, but unfortunately, he fell at a crucial moment. Hardik Pandya (42) also played a handy cameo as he played at a strike rate of 280. The captain got out in the penultimate over, leaving his team hanging with no in-form batter. With 17 to get in the last over, MI only managed to score six runs and lost three wickets.

While defending, two wickets each were taken by Yash Dayal and Josh Hazlewood. Also, Bhuvneshwar Kumar grabbed Rohit’s wicket at the start of the innings. Notably, Krunal Pandya held his nerves in the last over and managed to claim three wickets. Overall, Krunal took four wickets.

For MI with the ball, two wickets each were plucked by Trent Boult and Hardik. Vignesh Puthur also grabbed one wicket.

Rajat Patidar was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding batting show. With this win, RCB have breached MI’s fortress after 10 years and now are third on the points table with six points.
