In the 20th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are set to take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) tonight, i.e., April 7, at 7:30 PM IST at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Sitting at the bottom of the table isn’t an irregular sight for MI at the start of the season. The side has failed to find rhythm, winning only one of their four games so far. Jasprit Bumrah‘s long-awaited return provides a significant boost to the team. His mere presence on the pitch inspires confidence throughout the team. The Paltans will be keen to turn things around when they play at home in front of a raucous Wankhede crowd. Their top lineup has struggled to produce regular results. Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton have had occasions to shine but have not contributed enough. Rohit Sharma skipped the last game and hasn’t been in great form lately, so expectations for him are low at this point. Suryakumar Yadav has been outstanding—171 runs in four innings, an average of 57, and a strike rate of more than 160. Hardik Pandya and Mitchell Santner provide exciting depth to the club. With the ball, Trent Boult‘s precision accuracy and Deepak Chahar‘s swing prowess lead the way, resulting in a wonderfully balanced powerhouse. Vignesh Puthur brings something unique and could take a few wickets. Also worth mentioning is Ashwani Kumar, who had an excellent performance at the Wankhede last time, bagging four wickets against KKR.
RCB began strong with away victories over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but a home loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) hampered their momentum. The top order, led by Virat Kohli, Philip Salt, and Rajat Patidar, is on fire. Liam Livingstone regained his form with a 54 against GT, while Jitesh Sharma and Tim David provided late-over firepower, with David blasting 32* from 18 in his last outing. The batting has been sturdy, but the bowling has also improved—Josh Hazlewood‘s six wickets in three games and Bhuvneshwar Kumar‘s consistent new-ball combination set the tone, while Krunal Pandya, Yash Dayal, and Livingstone tighten things up in the middle overs. RCB appears well-balanced and ready to strike.
