In the 45th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) registered an emphatic victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 54 runs.
The hosts lost the toss and were put to bat by the visitors. MI were off to a flying start with the bat as Ryan Rickelton took on the bowlers from the first over itself. Rohit Sharma (12) smashed consecutive sixes off the first two balls before getting caught at short third. Will Jacks (29) joined Rickelton at the crease and notched a 55-run partnership. Rickelton was dismissed after making a scintillating 58 and was replaced by Suryakumar Yadav (54). After the dismissals of Jacks, Tilak Verma (6), and Hardik Pandya (5) within a span of four overs, the vice-captain took charge in the middle overs. Suryakumar smashed the LSG bowlers in all corners of the ground after stirring MI’s ship after a series of wickets. The five-time IPL champions had a solid finish courtesy of Naman Dhir (25) and Corbin Bosch’s (20) cameos at the back end of the first inning. MI managed to score 215 within their allotted 20 overs.
Like LSG, MI also leaked runs in the powerplay as the home team’s bowlers couldn’t contain the flow of runs due to the in-form batters Mitchell Marsh (34) and Nicholas Pooran (27). The Hardik-led team managed to bag wickets at regular intervals but couldn’t control the scoring rate till the 12th over. Things took a drastic turn as the MI bowlers began to take wickets at regular intervals, along with being economical. After the 20th over, the Mumbai team managed to bundle out the Lucknow side for 161.
For the winning side, Jasprit Bumrah bagged four wickets, Trent Boult pocketed three, Jacks had a brace, and Corbin Bosch managed a solitary wicket. On the other end, Prince Yadav, Digvesh Rathi, and Ravi Bishnoi had a scalp each. Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan took two wickets each.
With this dominant victory, MI have acquired the second spot on the table with 12 points.
Will Jacks was named Man of the Match for his vital all-round performance.
