MI won the toss and elected to bowl first, and their bowlers delivered with discipline and intent, limiting CSK to a modest total of 176/5. Despite a strong start in the powerplay, the visitors lost momentum in the middle overs, as MI’s bowlers used tight lines and clever variations to turn the tide. The pressure created during that phase proved decisive, eventually taking the game away from CSK.
The Paltans dominated the chase, with Rohit Sharma (76) performing admirably at the top. Ryan Rickelton (24) got things started quickly with a flurry of boundaries, but it was the Hitman who stole the show, unleashing a brutal assault on the Men in Yellow. Rohit’s blistering knock included four boundaries and six dominating sixes. Suryakumar Yadav (68), a fellow Mumbaikar, joined him and lit up the innings with his trademark flair, hitting six fours and five sixes. The duo put together a commanding 114-run partnership, propelling MI to a resounding victory with 26 balls remaining.
Shaik Rasheed (19) looked promising for CSK early on, hitting a few crisp shots against the new ball before falling earlier than expected. Debutant and local lad Ayush Mhatre (32) wowed the home crowd with a confident knock that included four boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 213.33. The experienced pair of Ravindra Jadeja (53) and Shivam Dube (50) held the innings together with a determined 79-run partnership, leading CSK to a competitive total of 176/5.
With the ball in the first innings, Jasprit Bumrah scalped two wickets, while one wicket each was taken by Deepak Chahar, Ashwani Kumar and Mitchell Santner.
While defending, CSK only managed to bag one wicket, courtesy of Jadeja.
Rohit Sharma was adjudged Player of the Match for his electrifying batting performance at the Wankhede. With this win, MI are now sixth in the points tally with eight points.
