In the 16th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
MI won the toss and chose to bowl, allowing LSG to set the tempo with their bat. The Super Giants took full advantage of the decision, getting off to a flying start with Mitchell Marsh‘s ferocious 60 off just 31 balls, striking at an impressive 193.55. However, the home team suffered a little setback in the middle overs when they lost three quick wickets, causing a wave of anxiety. Aiden Markram (53) and Ayush Badoni (30) kept the ship afloat, combining for a crucial 51-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Their disciplined efforts guaranteed that the innings regained momentum following its brief setback. As the innings came to a conclusion, David Miller (27) delivered a blistering cameo, hitting some crucial boundaries to lead Lucknow to an impressive score of 203/8.
Suryakumar Yadav (67) was the top run-scorer for the five-time champions. The batter rediscovered his form, but was unable to lead his team to victory. Naman Dhir (46) scored great runs but lost his wicket at the wrong time. Hardik Pandya gave it his all in the end, but MI was unable to close the gap.
While defending, it was Digvesh Rathi yet again taking the lead as he just gave away 21 runs and also took a wicket. Similarly, one wicket each was also taken by Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, and Avesh Khan.
With the ball for MI, skipper Hardik was at his best tonight as he plucked a fifer. One wicket each was also grabbed by Trent Boult, Ashwani Kumar, and Vignesh Puthur.
With this win, LSG won their second game of the season and are now sixth in the points tally.
