In the 32nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Super Over.
After winning the toss, RR asked DC to bat first. Abishek Porel (49) was the top man for the home unit as he provided a promising start. KL Rahul (38) also contributed valuable runs along with Tristan Stubbs (34*) and Axar Patel (34), which helped the side score 188/5 in 20 overs.
While bowling in the first innings, Jofra Archer managed to bag two wickets, while Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga also took one wicket each.
Chasing an uphill total, RR started well with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson, but an unfortunate injury to the skipper derailed momentum. Nitish Rana followed up, pairing with Jaiswal to keep hopes alive, but DC’s spinners once again hit the brakes. Just when RR appeared to be out of it, they surged back, only for Mitchell Starc to bowl a spectacular last over to defend eight runs with perfect yorkers.
While defending, Mitchell Starc, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav scalped one wicket each.
In the super over, RR tried to rush into things, and one would also say the management took wrong calls. The side imploded during the Super Over with two frantic run-outs. DC, who needed 12, easily won thanks to Stubbs and Rahul.
Mitchell Starc was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling show. With this win, DC are now placed first in the points tally with 10 points.
