In the 60th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Gujarat Titans (GT) will lock horns against Delhi Capitals (DC) tonight, i.e., May 18, at 7:30 PM at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Playing at home, DC will be eager to start the final leg of their IPL 2025 campaign on a high note. The Capitals, who are currently fifth in the standings with 13 points, need at least two victories in their remaining three games to secure their playoff spot. Though they face a formidable opponent in GT, the familiarity of home conditions may work in their favour. Following this game, DC will travel to Wankhede to face Mumbai Indians (MI), followed by a rescheduled encounter against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Jaipur, which had earlier gone south for them. The absence of Mitchell Starc creates a noticeable gap in the bowling attack, but DC has brought in Mustafizur Rahman to address it. Dushmantha Chameera, T Natarajan, and the dependable Kuldeep Yadav will all back him up. With the bat, Faf du Plessis and Abishek Porel will be charged with getting the team off to a good start, while KL Rahul, Axar Patel, and Tristan Stubbs will be crucial in anchoring the middle overs and ending strong. DC have had a mixed record in their last five games, with three losses, one tie, and only one win. With the playoffs approaching, it remains to be seen if the recent break has helped them regroup and recover at a critical point.
GT, on the other hand, are solidly at the top of the points standings, with 16 points. The squad only needs one win from its remaining three games to secure a playoff spot. With two of those games scheduled at their home ground, the Narendra Modi Stadium, GT will be confident not only of qualifying but also of finishing in the top two. The current break appears to have worked in their favour, and all eyes will be on how they maintain that momentum moving forward. While Jos Buttler will not be back for the rest of the season, GT has signed Kusal Mendis as his replacement. Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill have been in excellent form and will seek to keep the momentum going. Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, and Washington Sundar will all play important roles in the middle overs, particularly if the top order falters. Sherfane Rutherford has also excelled with his overall contributions. GT have a solid bowling lineup, with Gerald Coetzee and Rashid Khan in the mix. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Ishant Sharma will lead the pace attack, giving the team a well-rounded lineup as the league stage nears its end.
Head-to-Head:
Both sides have faced each other six times in the IPL, of which both DC & GT have won three games each. The last time these two units clashed in the ongoing season, GT came out victorious by seven wickets.
