In the 43rd game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.
SRH won the toss and decided to bowl first, which paid off nicely. The Orange Army bowled with discipline, reducing the host side to a modest 154/10. SRH’s bowlers kept on taking wickets at regular intervals, never allowing Chennai to gain any significant momentum. The pitch provided help, and Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat took advantage, exerting consistent pressure and keeping the run rate under control throughout the innings.
In the chase, SRH got off to a rough start with Abhishek Sharma going for a duck. However, Travis Head (19) provided an early boost with a flurry of boundaries. After his dismissal, it was Ishan Kishan (44), who finally found his rhythm, leading the innings with five clean fours and a booming six. He was backed by Aniket Verma (19), but Kamindu Mendis’ controlled hit of 32 clinched the victory for the visitors. Despite the odd difficulty given by the Chennai pitch, SRH made the chase appear simple, finishing the match in just 18.4 overs.
Batting first, Ayush Mhatre (30) grabbed the attention with a superb knock in the powerplay, setting the tone early. Ravindra Jadeja (21), walked at number four, looked promising, but was unable to convert his start. Dewald Brevis grabbed the show with a blazing 42, including four massive sixes that fuelled the innings. Towards the end, Shivam Dube (12) and Deepak Hooda (22) contributed vital runs to lift the total to a competitive level.
Harshal Patel got a four-wicket haul tonight and also had an economy rate of just 7. Jaydev Unadkat and Pat Cummins also got two wickets each, while Mohammad Shami and Kamindu Mendis took one wicket each. Such top effort with the ball meant CSK bowl out for the first time since 2019.
For CSK with the ball, Noor Ahmad bagged two wickets, while one wicket each was taken by Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj and Jadeja.
Harshal Patel was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling show. Following this win, SRH have secured their third win of the season and are eighth in the points tally.
