In the 17th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 25 runs.
The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first and had a very humble beginning to their innings as they lost a wicket in the first over. Abhishek Porel (33) counter-attacked in the powerplay while KL Rahul anchored the innings from the other end. The two batters stitched a partnership of 54 and retrieved DC from an early setback. After Porel’s departure, Rahul took charge of the attack and scored 77 off 51 to help the team reach a competitive total. Cameos from Axar Patel (21), Sameer Rizvi (20), and Tristan Stubbs (24) contributed to the target throughout the inning and set up a formidable target of 183 on a sluggish Chepauk pitch.
The Axar-led team continued a similar form with the ball as the bowling unit managed to bag three wickets within the powerplay. The visiting unit sent CSK’s five batters back to the pavilion within the first five overs. The bowlers utilised the sluggishness of the pitch to their full extent and made scoring difficult for CSK. The Delhi team managed to contain Vijay Shankar (69) and MS Dhoni (30) from scoring and restricted the hosts to 25 runs short of the target.
Vipraj Nigam bagged a brace while Mitchell Starc, Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav registered a wicket each. On the other end for CSK, Khaleel took two wickets while Ravindra Jadeja, Noor Ahmad and Matheesha Pathirana had a scalp each to their names.
Following this fixture, DC have acquired the top spot with six points while CSK are stranded at the eighth position with two points.
KL Rahul was adjudged Man of the Match for his scintillating inning.
