IPL 2023 SRH vs RCB: The Virat Kohli show in Hyderabad delivers a stellar win for RCB

With this victory, RCB cemented its spot in the fourth place with 14 points.

In the 65th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. With this victory, RCB cemented their spot in fourth place with 14 points.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. The visitors took an early advantage as the RCB bowlers scalped both the openers’ wickets in the powerplay, but the wicketkeeper batter, Heinrich Klassen hits a scintillating ton which helped the home side to put up a strong total of 186/5 in the given 20 overs.

In response, both the openers Virat Kohli (100) and du Plessis (71) gave a very strong start as usual to the Bengaluru-based side. Both of them built a humongous partnership of 172 runs, which also became the highest partnership of this season as well. But it was King Kohli’s night in the City of Nizams, where he scored a sensational ton which had 12 fours and four sixes. This was his sixth hundred in the IPL. Along with him, du Plessis complimented him very well in this innings. Both of them got out in the successive 18th and 19th over, but it was very well anticipated that the visitors had now come close to the target, and in the end, Bracewell (4)* and Glenn Maxwell (5)* chased the target in the last over.

With the ball, it was a catastrophic day for the Hyderabad bowlers, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan got one wicket each.

In the first innings, the Hyderabad-based side did not have a formidable start as both the openers Abhishek Sharma (11) and Rahul Tripathi (15) got out in the fifth over. Both of them got dismissed by Kiwi bowling all-rounder, Michael Bracewell. But, it was the South African batter, Klassen (104) who changed the fortunes for the 2016 champions by hitting a classic ton. He builds a partnership of 76 runs with his fellow South African and the skipper Aiden Markram (18). Markram got dismissed in the 13th over by Shahbaz Ahmed. But the 31-year-old batter from Pretoria continues to take charge, along with Harry Brook (27)*, and knit a crucial partnership of 74 runs partnership which helped the hosts to put up a formidable score.

With the ball for RCB, Bracewell scalped two wickets, whereas Mohammed Siraj, Harshal Patel, and Wayne Parnell got one wicket each.

For his incredible ton, Virat Kohli was adjudged Player of the Match.
