IPL 2023 SRH vs LSG: Mankad, Pooran slaughter SRH, secure crucial two points

Following this win, LSG are now fourth on the points table with 13 points.

In the 58th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

SRH won the toss and asked LSG to field first. The bowlers did an excellent job in the first innings as they restricted the home side to a par score of 182/6 in 20 overs. The Krunal Pandya-led side was plucking wickets at regular intervals, putting an end to any SRH batter’s plans to bat big and deep. Pandya himself, Yash Thakur, Amit Mishra and co. were all economical which helped LSG to only score a pretty decent target.

In the chase, Kyle Mayers had a horrible outing in the centre as the southpaw played 10 straight dot balls. From the other end, Quinton de Kock (29) provided a decent start for the visitors. Furthermore, it was Prerak Mankad’s (64*) and Marcus Stoinis‘s (40) partnership which guided LSG towards the target with ease. Both the batters added 73 runs for the third wicket partnership. In the middle overs when the batters got slow, Mankad chose the aggressive approach and hammered a few boundaries. Along with him, Nicholas Pooran (44*) joined him in the chase and grabbed the attention straight away. The southpaw batter struck three fours and four sixes to take LSG over the victory line with three balls to spare.

In the first innings, Anmolpreet Singh (36) gave a positive start to the home side while the in form Abhishek Sharma (7) got out pretty early in the powerplay. Aiden Markram (28) and Heinrich Klassen (47) were the two batters whose contribution took SRH to a respectable total. Klassen continued following the captain’s dismissal, but after a contentious possible no ball judgement, a break took away the South African batter’s momentum, resulting in his dismissal in the 19th over. Abdul Samad (37*) blasted one four and four sixes towards the end to help SRH score 182 on the board.

With the ball in the first innings, Krunal Pandya scalped two wickets back to back in the 13th over. One wicket each was also picked up by Yudhvir Singh Charak, Avesh Khan, Yash Thakur and Amit Mishra.

The home side, while defending, only managed to take three wickets. Abhishek Sharma, Mayank Markande and Glenn Phillips are the bowlers who scalped one wicket each.

Prerak Mankad was adjudged Player of the Match for his electrifying batting performance. Following this win, LSG are now fourth on the points table with 13 points.
