IPL 2023 SRH vs DC: Axar’s all-round performance helps DC prevail in a low score thriller

Axar Patel was adjudged Player of the Match for his all-round performance.

In the 34th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven runs in a nerve-racking thriller at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

The David Warner-led side won the toss and opted to bat first. But the decision was not a formidable one for the Capitals, as they didn’t have a great start, and Philip Salt got out for a duck in the very first over. Skipper Warner (21) and Mitchell Marsh (25) tried to build the innings, but they also failed to consolidate. The quick succession of wickets also derailed the DC innings, but some gritty knocks of 34 runs each from Manish Pandey and Axar Patel made the Delhi-based outfit to score 144/9.

While chasing, SRH had a very shaky start, as they lost the English batter, Harry Brook (7) who was dismissed by the pacer Anrich Nortje. Mayank Agarwal (49) tried to show some grit on the pitch, but the other batters failed to give some assistance from the other side. In the end, Heinrich Klassen (31) and Washington Sundar (24) * tried their best to hit the balls out of the park but failed to chase the target.

While defending, the bowlers from Delhi had shown an impeccable performance by calming their nerves in the low scoring nail biter. Nortje and Axar got two wickets, while veteran pacer Ishant Sharma and left-arm chinaman Kuldeep Yadav scalped one wicket each.

In the first innings with the ball, SRH bowlers were very impressive. Sundar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were the shining spots, as both the bowlers picked three and two wickets, respectively. T. Natarajan also claimed a wicket as well.

Axar Patel was adjudged Player of the Match for his all-round performance. Following this victory, DC registered back-to-back wins in the tournament after a very horrific start.

Scorecard:

Delhi Capitals: 144/9, Overs 20, Manish Pandey 34, Washington Sundar 3/28

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 137/6, Overs 20, Mayank Agarwal 49, Axar Patel 2/21
