In the 20th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 23 runs at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore.
DC won the toss and elected to field first. Both the RCB openers, Virat Kohli (50) and Faf du Plessis (22), gave a positive start to the home team. Kohli smashed another half-century of the season which included six fours and one six. Both the openers added 42 runs for the first wicket partnership. Furthermore, Mahipal Lomror (26) and Glenn Maxwell (24) also added a few runs in the middle overs. Towards the end, Shahbaz Ahmed (20) scored quick-fire runs to take RCB to a respectable total of 174/6 in 20 overs.
In the chase, DC couldn’t fight much for the win as none of the batters could score enough runs to keep the game alive. Manish Pandey (50) scored a decent fifty while Anrich Nortje (23*) also contributed runs but all in vain.
Debutant Vijaykumar Vyshak claimed three wickets in his quota of four overs. Along with him, Mohammad Siraj also plucked two wickets while one wicket each was grabbed by Wayne Parnell, Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel.
For DC, Kuldeep Yadav picked two wickets along with Mitchell Marsh while one wicket each was taken by Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav.
Virat Kohli was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant batting show. Following this win, RCB have won their second game of the season and now are placed seventh on the points table.
