In the 38th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 56 runs at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
PBKS won the toss and opted to field first. With the bat, LSG got off to a good start as both the openers, KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers (54) gave the visitors a flying start to the innings. While Rahul got out pretty soon, Mayers went on to score a half century which included seven fours and four sixes. Ayush Badoni (43) also smashed at the strike rate of 179 which kept the firing momentum on. Marcus Stoinis (74) also joined the party with his magnificent fifty. The right-handed batter hammered six fours and five sixes to take LSG to a score of 257. Along with him, Nicholas Pooran (45) too hit few balls out of the park.
In the chase, even the PBKS batter had only one plan and that was to go all out from the word go. However, only Atharva Taide (61) was able to deliver with his impressive half century. The batter hit eight fours and two sixes at an impressive strike rate. Nevertheless, the batter got no help from the other end which eventually led to PBKS’ loss.
While defending, Yash Thakur bagged four wickets in his quota of four overs. Three wickets were also picked by Naveen-ul-haq while two wickets were scalped by Ravi Bishnoi. Marcus Stoinis also managed to acquire a wicket.
For PBKS, Kagiso Rabada claimed two wickets while one wicket each was grabbed by Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone and Arshdeep Singh.
Marcus Stoinis was awarded with the Player of the Match for his amazing batting show. Following this win, LSG now has 10 points and are positioned second on the points table.
