IPL 2023 MI vs RCB: Sky, Wadhera’s brilliant batting guide MI in a mammoth run chase

For his spectacular innings of 83 runs, Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged Player of the Match.

In the 54th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With this win, MI have now jumped to the third position by securing 12 points.

MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first, but the visitors put up a very formidable total of 199/6, all courtesy of the half-century innings from Glenn MaxwellFaf du Plessis, and a short cameo from Dinesh Karthik.

While chasing, the Mumbai-based team came up with a very positive intent as the opening batter, Ishan Kishan (42) took the charge, and started to hit the boundaries, building an opening partnership of 51 runs, along with Rohit (7), but Wanindu Hasaranga took both of them in the fifth over, which created a chance for the Bengaluru-based team to make a comeback. After the fall of these two wickets, Suryakumar Yadav (83) and young southpaw batter, Nehal Wadhera (52)* slaughtered the RCB bowling setup, and smacked boundaries for fun. Both of them stitched a massive 140 runs partnership before Vijaykumar Vyshak took the wicket of SKY, but from the other end, Wadhera played the match-winning six that helped MI to chase the 200 runs target in 16.3 overs.

RCB with the ball had a very disastrous day. Only Hasaranga and Vyshak were the wicket-takers who scalped two wickets each.

In the first innings, RCB had a very shaky start, as the home team caught the big fish, Virat Kohli in the very first over, as he was dismissed by Australian left-arm pacer, Jason Behrendorff. The Aussie pacer did not take any time, as he also dismissed Anuj Rawat (6) in the third over. But once again, Maxwell (68) and du Plessis (65) came to the rescue and took the responsibility of knocking down the host’s bowling. Both of them knit 120 runs partnership, which helped Bangalore to come into a position to score a big total, and a short cameo from Karthik (30) helped the visitors to put in a high score in their 20 overs.

With the ball for MI, Behrendorff got three wickets, whereas Cameron Green, Chris Jordan, and Kumar Kartikeya got one wicket each.

For his spectacular innings of 83 runs which had seven fours and six sixes, Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged Player of the Match.

Scorecard:

Royal Challengers Bangalore: 199/6, Glenn Maxwell 68, Jason Behrendorff 3/36

Mumbai Indians: 200/4, Suryakumar Yadav 83, Vijaykumar Vyshak 2/37
