In the 22nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Mumbai Indians (MI) will host Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) tomorrow i.e. Sunday, April 16 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai at 3:30 PM IST.
MI have currently acquired the ninth spot in the standings with a couple of points to their name. The five-time champions will be heading into this fixture on the back of a last-ball victory against the struggling Delhi Capitals (DC). The major positive from the previous game has been the counter-attacking performance by the skipper himself, Rohit Sharma, who led from the front in the chase. The Aussie duo, Tim David and Cameron Green, also performed well enough at the back end of the innings to seal the inaugural victory for the Mumbai-based franchise in the season. Returning to their yard, Rohit and his men will look forward to claiming a thumping victory on Sunday in front of their home crowd.
On the other hand, KKR, who have been going through a season full of ups and down, are currently in the fourth spot with four points. After snatching a victory from the jaws of Gujarat Titans (GT), last Sunday, the Knight Riders succumbed to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) yesterday. The star of the two-time champions, Rinku Singh, yet again scores big but this time around he couldn’t guide his team over the finish line. The top-order batters, Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer have been contributing frequently, which is a good sign for the team moving forward in the tournament.
Head-to-head:
MI have a massive upper hand in the head-to-head competition against KKR. Both franchises played against each other on 31 occasions, Mumbai won 22 fixtures while Kolkata emerged victorious on nine instances.
In the last outing between the two teams, which took place in the previous season, KKR won the game by five wickets.
