IPL 2023 MI vs GT: Suryakumar’s maiden IPL ton delivers MI a vital 27-run win over table-toppers Gujarat

In the 57th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 27 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

GT won the toss and asked the five-time IPL winners to bat first. The openers, Rohit Sharma (29) and Ishan Kishan (31) started off well in the powerplay but eventually once again lost their wickets after getting set. However, both batters scored 61 runs for the first wicket partnership. In came Suryakumar Yadav (103*) at number three. The right-handed batter smashed an unbelievable hundred tonight which consisted of 11 fours and six sixes. If a fan was to mention a particular shot was magnificent, you couldn’t guess which one. Mumbai’s very own 360-degree batter took MI to a massive score of 218 runs in 20 overs.

In the chase, GT lost three consecutive wickets upfront in the powerplay. With Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha in form, it looked like the chase will be going down the line. Nevertheless, with wickets tumbling throughout the first half of the second innings, GT could have been done and dusted by the 15th over. However, Rashid Khan (79*) showcased his best tonight as he powered GT from 113 to 190 runs. Khan smashed three fours and 10 humongous sixes in his knock which helped GT to end up with a respectable score.

While defending, Akash Madhwal took three wickets in his quota of four overs. Piyush Chawla was magnificent tonight as he managed to grab two wickets. While Kumar Kartikeya also took two wickets, one wicket was also plucked by Jason Behrendorff.

On the other hand, Rashid Khan scalped four wickets while bowling in the first innings. Mohit Sharma also managed to grab one wicket.

Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged Player of the Match for his amazing batting. Following this win, MI are now third on the points table with 14 points.
