IPL 2023 GT vs MI: Abhinav, Noor, and Rashid star in GT’s dominating victory

Abhinav Manohar was adjudged Player of the Match for his explosive innings of 42 runs.

In the 35th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by a huge margin of 55 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this win, the Titans have now jumped to the second spot in the points table.

MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first, and the visitors drew the first blood, as left arm pacer, Arjun Tendulkar got rid of Wriddhiman Saha (4) in the third over. But GT showed some counter attack instincts with the help of the innings from Shubman Gill (56), David Miller (46), and Abhinav Manohar (42), and the late firing finishing blitz from Rahul Tewatia (20)* within five balls that empowered the Ahmedabad-based outfit to score a massive total of 207/6.

While chasing, the Mumbai-based team had a terrible start, as the captain Hardik Pandya got the wicket of Rohit (2). Both Ishan Kishan (13) and Cameron Green (33) tried to stay on the crease to build the chase, but couldn’t able to capitalise, and after their dismissal, the MI batting line got derailed. In the end, young batter Nehal Wadhera (40) showed some hits, but were not enough to chase up the humongous total.

The outfit from Ahmedabad was right on the money while defending the total. The Afghani leg spin duo, Noor Ahmad and Rashid Khan bamboozled the MI batting system, as they scalped three and two wickets respectively. The right arm pacer, Mohit Sharma also claimed two wickets, and Pandya got one wicket as well.

In the first innings, MI did not have a great day with the ball, but the veteran leg break bowler, Piyush Chawla got 2 wickets. While others such as Kumar Kartikeya, Riley Meredith, Jason Behrendorff got one wicket each, but were also quite expensive. Arjun also claimed a wicket as well in his spell of two overs.

Abhinav Manohar for his explosive 42 runs in 21 balls was adjudged as the Player of the Match. His scintillating knock had three fours and sixes each.

Scorecard:

Gujarat Titans: 207/6, Overs 20, Shubman Gill 56 , Piyush Chawla 2/34

Mumbai Indians: 152/9, Overs 20, Nehal Wadhera 40, Noor Ahmad 3/37
