IPL 2023 GT vs DC: Ishant, Khaleel assist DC in defending a below-par target

Following this win, DC managed to win their third game of the season but still are placed last on the points table.

In the 44th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by five runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bat first. The choice proved to be contentious as DC batters had trouble from the start. During the powerplay, the Delhi-based side lost five wickets as a result of some outstanding bowling by the GT bowlers. The lone bright spot in the otherwise dismal situation was young Aman Khan (51), whose fifty helped DC to get to a decent score. In his innings, Khan smashed three fours and three sixes. Along with him, Patel (23) and Axar Patel (27) also contributed some valuable runs which took DC to a score of 130/8 in 20 overs.

In the second innings with the bat, even GT batters found it difficult to get off to a strong start. No other batter could help the team in their chase except for skipper Hardik Pandya (59*). While Abhinav Manohar (26) and Rahul Tewatia (20) tried their best in the final few overs, they were unable to help GT cross the finish line.

It was a complete team effort with the ball for DC as Ishant Sharma and Khaleel Ahmed bagged two wickets each. One wicket each was also picked up by Anrich Nortje and Kuldeep Yadav as well.

For GT, Mohammad Shami was at his best tonight as he claimed four wickets. Shami bowled all his four overs in the powerplay and singlehandedly cleaned up the batters upfront. Furthermore, Mohit Sharma managed to pluck two wickets while Rashid Khan also scalped one.

Mohammad Shami was adjudged Player of the Match for his electrifying bowling show. Following this win, DC managed to win their third game of the season but still are placed last on the points table.

Scorecard:

Delhi Capitals: 130/8, Overs 20, Aman Khan 51, Mohammad Shami 4/11

Gujarat Titans: 125/6, Overs 20, Hardik Pandya 59*, Ishant Sharma 2/23
