IPL 2023 DC vs CSK: Openers, Chahar shine as CSK confirm playoffs birth

Following this win, CSK have now 17 points and are qualified for the playoffs.

In the 67th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 77 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

CSK won the toss and opted to bat first. It was a good start for the four-time IPL champions with the bat in the scorching heat as both the openers, Devon Conway (87) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (79) built 141-run-partnership. While Conway hammered 11 fours and three sixes, Gaikwad smashed three fours and seven sixes. Post Gaikwad’s wicket, Conway continued along with Shivam Dube (22) who smashed some quick-fire runs. Towards the end, Ravindra Jadeja (20) hit three fours and one six to take CSK to a total of 223 runs in 20 over.

In the chase, only David Warner (86) looked handsome with the bat as he struck an unbelievable half-century. Warner hit seven fours and five collosal sixes in his inning. No other batter really contributed any runs which is why DC only ended up with 146 runs in 20 overs.

CSK also did an excellent work with the ball while defending as the managed to pick up nine wickets. Deepak Chahar scalped three wickets while two wickets each were taken by Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana. Ravindra Jadeja and Tushar Despande also managed to claim one wicket each.

For DC in the first innings with the ball, one wicket each was taken by Chetan Sakariya, Anrich Nortje and Khaleel Ahmed.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was adjudged Player of the Match for his excellent batting show. Following this win, CSK have now 17 points and are qualified for the playoffs.
