IPL 2023 CSK vs RR: Dhoni’s gallant effort remains ineffective as RR defeat CSK in a tense match

Following this win, RR are now sitting at the top of the table.

In the 17th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by three runs at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first. The innings for the visitors started well once again as Jos Buttler (52) smashed another half-century of the season. With one four and three sixes, Buttler laid down a perfect foundation for the forthcoming batters. The Englishman, who played almost throughout the inning, also had a decent partnership with Devdutt Padikkal (38) and Ravichandran Ashwin (30). While Padikkal looked elegant with the bat, Ashwin also played a handy knock. Towards the end, Shimron Hetmyer (30) also displayed his form and contributed a few quick-fire runs which took RR to a score of 175/8 in 20 overs.

In response to RR, CSK also started their innings on a decent note as Devon Conway (50) scored a fifty. Ajinkya Rahane (31) also continued his form and fired some quick runs. Although target wasn’t out of reach for CSK, they were still losing wickets which created pressure. In the end, Ravindra Jadeja (25) and MS Dhoni (32) had responsibility on their shoulder as they required 40 runs in two overs. In the end, with five to get off the final ball, MSD only managed to get a single which meant RR won their just second game against CSK in Chennai.

Ashwin picked up two points while defending. Two wickets were also picked by Yuzvendra Chahal. Sandeep Sharma and Adam Zampa also grabbed one wicket each.

For CSK, two wickets each were taken by Jadeja, Tushar Despande and Akash Singh. Moeen Ali also managed to claim one wicket.

Ravichandran Ashwin was labelled Player of the Match for his all-round performance. Following this win, RR are now sitting at the top of the table.

Scorecard:

Rajasthan Royals: 175/8, Overs 20, Jos Buttler 52, Ravindra Jadeja 2/21

Chennai Super Kings: 172/6, Overs 20, Devon Conway 50, Ravichandran Ashwin 2/25
