IPL 2022: Three crucial players for Gujarat Titans

Gujarat will kick off their IPL 2022 campaign on March 28 against Lucknow Super Giants.

Gujarat Titans (GT) will be one of two new teams making their debut this season in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Commencing your journey in such a competitive tournament can be challenging, but with the right names in your kit bag, you can get off to a good start. The team has shown faith in Hardik Pandya and appointed him as the skipper. IPL 2022 will be the third season where a franchise from Gujarat will be participating.

To have a successful debut season, the team requires some key players to perform consistently throughout the season. Let’s take a look at the top three players who could be crucial for the Gujarat-based team in the IPL 2022 season:

1. Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan leg-spinner, can fit into any playing XI due to his exceptional skills. He will, without a doubt, be one of the most important players for GT in the upcoming IPL season. The 23-year-old has a successful track record in T20 cricket. Be it in IPL or anywhere else in the world, Khan has demonstrated why he’s recognised as the biggest match-winner of the T20 format. At a track like Wankhede or Brabourne, the leg spinner can show some batting skills as well.

The former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) spinner has picked up 93 wickets in 76 innings at an economy of 6.33. The talented bowler will look to pick his 100th scalp in the forthcoming edition.

2. Lockie Ferguson

Lockie Ferguson, the New Zealand fast bowler who impressed many cricket fans last year, will be hoping for another successful IPL season. During IPL 2021, the 30-year-old bowler claimed 13 wickets for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in eight matches at an average of 17.23 and an economy rate of 7.46.

Although he performed admirably throughout the season, he conceded 56 runs in the finals, which hampered the Knights’ chase in the second innings. The Kiwi bowler was bought for INR 10 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

3. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill made his IPL debut in 2018 with KKR. Since then, he has appeared in four consecutive seasons for the franchise.

Gill will look to have a sensible approach and operate throughout the innings for GT. Moreover, wickets in Mumbai and Pune will make it easier for him to get the ball on the bat as well. The true test of the batsman’s skill will take place in the second half of the season when the pitch will become slow. However, Shubman is a reliable player whose consistency can help the Ahmedabad-based team perform well in the debut season.

The 22-year-old has scored 1417 runs in 58 matches in the previous four seasons, with an average of 31.48 at a strike rate of 123.

Gujarat will kick off their IPL 2022 campaign on March 28 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
