IPL 2022: TATA IPL inks multiyear deal with RuPay

RuPay was created to help the RBI achieve its vision of creating a domestic, open, and multilateral payment system.

The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) has announced that the flagship product of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), RuPay, will be an official partner of Tata IPL. This will be a multi-year collaboration.

RuPay was created to help the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) achieve its vision of creating a domestic, open, and multilateral payment system. RuPay allows electronic payments at all banks and financial firms. NPCI maintains relationships with Discover Financial and JCB in order for the RuPay card scheme to gain international acceptance.

Brijesh Patel, Chairman, IPL, said, “We are pleased to have RuPay on board as an official partner of the Indian Premier League 2022. This association of IPL and RuPay, the flagship product of NPCI, brings together two of India’s best homegrown brands and is set to create a huge impact on millions of Indians across the globe, encouraging digital payments adoption in a faster and seamless manner.”

Praveena Rai, Chief Operating Officer, NPCI, commented, “We are delighted to partner with the BCCI for one of the most celebrated sports leagues – the Indian Premier League. We believe RuPay resonates well with IPL as both brands are bringing India together. Just like IPL provides high voltage entertainment to all Indian cricket lovers, RuPay offers tech-led, innovative, and customized offerings to people across the country, being accepted in India and internationally. With RuPay’s venture into IPL as the official partner, we feel it is one of the best ways to define the tech-savvy, youthful, contemporary brand personality of RuPay.”

Previously, RuPay had signed with the Prime Volleyball League (PVL), as their official title sponsor for three years.

Recently, Disney Star has announced that they have already sold a significant portion of the advertising inventory on both Star Sports and Disney+Hotstar. For the upcoming season, the company has secured 15 broadcasts and 13 digital sponsors.
