The 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is set to be a high octane thriller as the two most consistent teams, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT) will play against each other on Wednesday, April 27 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai at 7:30 PM IST.
After going through consecutive defeats in the first two games of the season, Sunrisers Hyderabad looked in turmoil without David Warner and Rashid Khan. Following an underwhelming start, the franchise went on to make a miraculous turnaround as the pace battery of the team started spewing venom in the powerplay and death overs. Kane Williamson utilised Umran Malik, T Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar effectively to get on the winning ways. A consistent effort from Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram has helped them cruise over the finish line. The 2016 champions will be walking into their next fixture after thrashing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) last weekend. SRH played seven matches, won five and lost twice. With 10 points, the Hyderabad-based team has acquired the second spot on the leaderboard.
On the other hand, Gujarat Titans are also going through a similar season to their Wednesday opponents. The IPL debutants have also played seven games so far, they won six matches and lost once. Adding more to it, the solitary defeat of the team came against SRH and the Hardik Pandya-led unit will look to settle the score in the upcoming game. The table-toppers have narrowly managed to escape the defeat in the past two games. The Afghanistan spinner has stood up on both occasions for the team. The in-form skipper has been contributing heavily with the bat at the top-order along with pocketing some wickets. With 12 points, GT are atop the table.
Hyderabad have the upper hand in the head-to-head competition as they beat Gujarat by eight wickets earlier this season.
