In the third match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will lock horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, March 27 at 7:30 PM IST.
After failing to capitalise in the playoffs last season RCB will be heading into IPL 2022 with a new skipper, Faf du Plessis. Without AB de Villiers in the batting line-up and Virat Kohli playing just as a batter, the upcoming season will quite be a fresh start for the franchise. The Bangalore-based team retained Kohli, Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell and got hold of players like Plessis, Josh Hazlewood and Dinesh Karthik in the mega auction. The 2016 finalist also brought back its 2021 Purple Cap holder, Harshal. With a blend of quality Indian and overseas players, RCB looks like a dynamic side heading into another IPL season.
Just like RCB, PBKS will also play under a new captain, Mayank Agarwal, after KL Rahul was released by the team. Agarwal has been consistently scoring for the Punjab-based team for the past few years and will look forward to leading from the front. Apart from the new skipper, Arshdeep Singh was the only other player retained by the franchise. Punjab managed to get players like Kagiso Rabada, Shikhar Dhawan, Shahrukh Khan, Jonny Bairstow and many more. PBKS’ line-up looks star-studded unlike previous years and will try their fullest to get their hands on the trophy.
Head-to-head:
In the head-to-head competition between the two teams, PBKS have the upper hand. The two teams have collided on 28 instances. Punjab won 15 fixtures while Bangalore emerged victorious 13 times.
In the last outing between the two teams, RCB won the match by six runs.
