IPL 2022 RCB vs KKR: Karthik seals the low scoring thriller for Royal Challengers Bangalore

Hasaranga was adjudged Man of the Match for his four-wicket haul.

In the sixth match of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by three wickets at the D.Y. Patil Stadium.

After winning the toss, Faf Du Plessis elected to bowl first. The decision worked wonderfully as they bundled out the Knight Riders for just 128 in 18.5 overs. Chasing a low total, RCB faced a lot of difficulties than they anticipated as they lost wickets of Anuj Rawat, Du Plessis and Virat Kohli in the powerplay itself. The partnership of 45 runs between David Willey (18) and Sherfane Rutherford (28) helped massively in the middle overs. Their partnership stopped the flow of wickets and gave some momentum to the team. Shahbaz Ahmed’s contribution cruised RCB closer to the target. Dinesh Karthik held his nerve in the final overs and finished with a boundary with four balls to spare. It was a great decision from the RCB management to hold back Karthik for the end as that helped them gain two points.

The KKR batsmen got the start but couldn’t manage to build the partnership. Andre Russell (25) was the pick among the batsmen for the Knight Riders. Valuable contributions from Umesh Yadav (18) and Varun Chakravarthy (10*) helped KKR to set up a respectable total.

Wanindu Hasaranga was the star of the match as he took four wickets. Akash Deep also picked up three wickets but also went for 45 runs. For KKR, Tim Southee pocketed three wickets while Umesh got two to his name. Sunil Narine and Chakravarthy gathered one wicket each.

Bangalore gets off the mark with a confident victory in the ongoing season. Hasaranga was adjudged Man of the Match for his four-wicket haul.

Scorecard:

Kolkata Knight Riders: 128/10, Overs 18.5, Andre Russell 25, Wanindu Hasaranga 4/20

Royal Challengers Bangalore: 132/7, Overs 19.2, Sherfane Rutherford 28, Tim Southee 3/20
