IPL 2022 MI vs SRH: Sunrisers Hyderabad stay alive with a narrow victory

In the 65th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by three runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma opted to field first. With a new opening combination for SRH, it still didn’t work out for the team as inform Abhishek Sharma got out early in the powerplay. Priyam Garg (42), who opened in place of captain Kane Williamson batted beautifully as he gave the Hyderabad-based franchise a start they were looking for. Along with him, Rahul Tripathi (74) hammered bowlers throughout the inning and helped SRH reach a massive total in the end. With nine fours and three sixes, Tripathi continued his fantastic form. In the end, a quickfire knock from Nicholas Pooran (38) helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to a total of 193/6 in 20 overs.

In the chase, both the openers, Rohit Sharma (48) and Ishan Kishan (43) gave MI a brilliant start. For the first wicket partnership, the opening batters put up 95 runs in just 10 overs. No one further contributed any valuable runs as the team struggled in the middle overs. Tim David (46) also tried his best but couldn’t take MI over the victory line. In the end, the Mumbai-based team was short of three runs as they got bundled for 190/7 in 20 overs.

Umran Malik was once again fantastic with the ball as he grabbed three wickets in three overs. Washington Sundar and Fazalhaq Farooqi also managed to get one wicket each.

For MI, Ramandeep Singh plucked three wickets in his quota of four overs. Along with him Jasprit Bumrah, Daniel Sams, and Riley Meredith got one wicket each.

Rahul Tripathi was adjudged Man of the Match for his powerful performance with the bat. Following this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad now have 12 points and are eighth on the table.
