IPL 2022 MI vs RCB: Victory for Mumbai Indians gifts Royal Challengers Bangalore a spot in playoffs

MI gets to eight points now and have gifted Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) a place in the playoffs.

In the 69th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by five wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. After a slight drizzle before the match, it looked difficult to bat on the given wicket. MI took full advantage of the situation and bowled beautifully to restrict DC to just a par score of 159/7. Jasprit Bumrah along with Ramandeep Singh were at their best tonight.

In the chase, Ishan Kishan (48) batted steadily which built a foundation in the powerplay. Youngster Dewald Brewis (37) scored some valuable runs in the middle overs. Although batsmen were getting runs, the strike rate was pretty less which made it difficult for the batters to chase down the target. In the end, quick-fire knocks from Tim David (34) and Tilak Verma (21) helped the Mumbai-based team to achieve the target in the last over.

In the first innings, Prithvi Shaw (24), who made his comeback after suffering from illness, looked in good touch as he gave a decent start to the Delhi-based team. After losing some wickets in the powerplay, Pant (39) took the initiative and powered DC to a respectable total. Rovman Powell (43) also helped the captain in the process. In the end, a quickfire contribution from Axar Patel (19) took DC to a total of 159/7 in 20 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the evening as he scalped three wickets in his quota of four overs. Along with him, Ramandeep Singh took two wickets. Mayank Markande and Daniel Sams also got one wicket each tonight.
Anrich Nortje and Shardul Thakur grabbed two wickets each in the second innings. Kuldeep Yadav got one wicket as well.

Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged Man of the Match for his powerful performance with the ball. With this win, MI gets to eight points now and have gifted Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) a place in the playoffs.

Scorecard:
