In the 61st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will play against each other to keep their playoff hopes alive. The fixture will take place on May 14, Saturday at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune at 7:30 PM IST.
After winning five consecutive games, Sunrisers Hyderabad had acquired a spot in the top four of the leaderboard but slumped to a lower position after three back-to-back defeats. The team lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their previous three games, SRH are in turmoil and need a major turnaround. The 2016 champions have to win their remaining three games to stay alive in the playoff race. With 10 points, the Hyderabad franchise has attained the sixth spot currently.
Kolkata Knight Riders are also in a similar situation as their Saturday opponent. After commencing the season on a positive note, the Knight Riders lost their momentum mid-way and haven’t really bounced back since then. The two-time champions beat Mumbai Indians (MI) earlier this week, which could have helped them gain some momentum going ahead. With just two games left, the Kolkata franchise has to come on top in both matches to stay in contention for the knockout stage. KKR are in the eighth position with 10 points at the moment.
KKR have a massive lead in the head-to-head competition between the two teams. Both franchises played 22 matches against each other so far. Kolkata won 14 games while Hyderabad emerged victorious on eight occasions.
In the last outing between the two teams earlier this season, SRH won the game by seven wickets.
