After winning the toss, Rishabh Pant chose to field first. The decision proved to be the right one as DC bowlers demolished Knight Riders batsmen throughout the inning. A brilliant bowling spell by Kuldeep Yadav once again led the team towards a strong bowling performance in the first inning. Along with him, Mustafizur Rahman also helped DC get wickets in the latter stages of the game.
Although Prithvi Shaw got out for a golden duck, on the other hand, experienced David Warner (42) played a magnificent knock on the given pitch as the ball was stopping a bit. Warner hit eight fours in his innings to get a good start for the Delhi based franchise in the powerplay. Another Aussie, Mitchell Marsh (13) also got out in the powerplay and somewhat gave the opponents a minimal hope to come back. Lalit Yadav (22) helped DC to build the innings with Warner in the powerplay. The duo put together 65 runs for the third wicket partnership before the southpaw lost his wicket in the 10th over. Rovman Powell (33*) and Axar Patel (24) took the game deep which certainly meant sealing the game for DC and the same happened as well. Although Patel, unfortunately, was run out, Powell ensured that DC taste their fourth win of the season tonight. In the end of the penultimate over, Powell smashed a maximum to win the game over KKR by four wickets.
In the first innings for KKR, no one really turned up to score any big runs. The motto of playing fiercely was only followed by captain Shreyas Iyer (42) and Nitish Rana (57) who took the game into their hand and managed to take KKR to a respectable score. Rana scored a half-century and smashed three fours and four sixes to help KKR in the latter stage of the first inning. A bit of contribution by Rinku Singh (23) further helped the Kolkata based team to reach 146/9 in 20 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav was the star of the evening as he picked four wickets just in three overs. The former KKR player took some important wickets including Iyer, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. Along with Yadav, three wickets were taken by Rahman. One each wicket was plucked by Chetan Sakariya and Axar Patel.
For KKR, only Umesh Yadav looked impressive as he picked up three wickets. Harshit Rana and Sunil Narine also got one wicket each as well.
Kuldeep Yadav once again against KKR was adjudged Man of the Match for the absolute magnificent performance with the ball. With this win, Delhi Capitals got to eight points and are now sixth in the points table.
