In the tenth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 14 runs at the MCA stadium in Pune.
After winning the toss, Rishabh Pant elected to bowl first. Similarly to the previous game at the venue, the new ball was swinging today, making it difficult for the DC batters. After struggling in the beginning, Shubman Gill (84) settled well and scored a slew of runs for GT with six 4’s and four 6’s. With Gill, Hardik Pandya (31) also helped Gujarat to get to a respectable total. The duo added 65 runs for the third wicket partnership. Later, contributions from David Miller (20*) and Rahul Tewatia (14) assisted GT in imposing a difficult target for the opponents. After the first innings, the Gujarat based team managed to put up a reputable score of 171 at the loss of six wickets.
In response, Delhi started slow and lost a few wickets upfronts in the powerplay. Rishabh Pant (43) was the only one looking to see the moving ball carefully. He struck at 148.28 with seven boundaries to his name. Lalit Yadav (25) in the middle overs tried to help his skipper in the chase but unfortunately got run out. In the end, the Delhi based franchise fell short of 14 runs.
Lockie Ferguson was the star of the evening as he picked up four wickets and just gave away 28 runs. The right-arm bowler used his pace to full potential. Mohammed Shami also scalped two wickets. For DC, Mustafizur Rahman got three wickets and Indian left-arm pacer, Khaleed Ahmed also had two wickets to his name.
Gujarat Titans won scored a consecutive victory and now have four points in the kitty. Lockie Ferguson was adjudged Man of the Match for his powerful performance with the ball.
