IPL 2022 CSK vs PBKS: Livingstone’s all-round performance wins two points for PBKS

PBKS earned their second victory of the season and now sits in fourth place on the points table.

In the 11th match of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 54 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Ravindra Jadeja won the toss and asked PBKS to bat first. Except for the loss of captain Mayank Agarwal and in-form Bhanuka Rajapaksa (9) to the marvellous athleticism of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Punjab started well. Opener Shikhar Dhawan (33) played the anchors innings until the 10th over. It was Liam Livingstone who took the charge of the game and smashed 60 off 32 deliveries with five 4’s and five 6’s. It was his innings that propelled the Punjab-based team to a massive total. On the other end, wickets were falling, leading the management to believe they were still 15-20 runs short. In the end, debutant Jitesh Sharma (26) and Kagiso Rabada (12) made important contributions to help Punjab Kings reach 180/8.

Defending 180, Punjab Kings’ bowlers worked well together and took wickets at regular intervals. Of the top four CSK batsmen, only Robin Uthappa (13) and Ambati Rayudu (13) got to double digits. The Chennai-based team were left hanging at 38/5 in just eight overs. At the back of the innings, Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni tried their best but couldn’t manage to cross the winning line. Chennai Super Kings in the end got bowled out on 126 in just 18 overs and lost their third consecutive game in IPL 2022.

With the ball, Rahul Chahar bagged three wickets and just gave away 25 runs in his quota of four overs. Liam Livingstone also shone with the ball as he got a brace in three overs. For CSK, Chris Jordan and Dwaine Pretorius scalped two each.

Liam Livingstone was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant all-round performance. PBKS earned their second victory of the season and now sits in fourth place on the points table. On the other hand, CSK’s losing streak continues.
