After Mahendra Singh Dhoni took over the command of the team again, it felt as if the fate of Chennai Super Kings is going to change for the rest of the season. The defending champions beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the first game under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in the current edition. But the team couldn’t replicate the performance in the following game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). With seven defeats, CSK are officially out of the playoffs race. The defending champions will like to conclude the season on a higher note by winning the remaining games. The MSD-led team has acquired the ninth spot on the table with six points.
Delhi Capitals are going through an inconsistent season so far. Out of the 10 matches, they played so far, DC won and lost five games each. After beating SRH in their last outing earlier this week, the 2020 finalists will take some momentum heading into their Sunday game. The two overseas players of the team, David Warner and Rovman Powell have been carrying the team with their bats. The Delhi franchise, which is yet to win its maiden IPL title will count on the in-form players to continue performing well as the tournament approaches the playoffs. DC have occupied the fifth position currently with 10 points.
In the head-to-head competition between the two teams, CSK have the upper hand. The two teams collided in 26 games, Chennai won 16 matches while Delhi emerged victorious on 10 occasions.
The last outing between the two teams took place in the previous season, CSK eliminated DC in the playoffs.
