IPL 2022 CSK vs DC: Conway powers Chennai Super Kings to a dominant victory

With this huge win, Chennai Super Kings are now eighth on the points table with eight points.

In the 55th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 91 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

After winning the toss, Rishabh Pant asked CSK to bat first. Innings kicked off in a tremendous fashion as both the openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad (41) and Devon Conway (87) gave CSK a huge start in the powerplay and beyond. The opening duo set up a 110 run for the first wicket partnership until the Maharashtra based batsman got out in the 11th over. Conway continued his assault on bowlers as he smashed seven fours and five sixes to ensure that CSK reaches an above par score. It wasn’t about the pitch but how the batsmen use small boundaries to their benefit. After the Kiwi batsman’s exit, Shivam Dube (32) also scored some heavy runs at the strike rate of 168.42. The left-handed batsman displayed another fine inning but couldn’t stay till the end. It was Mahendra Singh Dhoni (21) who hammered bowlers all around the park in the death overs which allowed the four-time winners of the IPL to reach a total of 208/6 in 20 overs.

In the chase, no batsman showed their ability as the team got restricted to just 117 runs. Inform David Warner (19) also got trapped in front of the stumps for a bare minimum score for someone of his calibre. The partnership between Mitchell Marsh (25) and Pant (21) was the only positive thing for DC as the duo added 36 runs in quick succession. The southpaw was looking in fine touch but failed to deliver for the 2020 IPL finalists. In the end, Shardul Thakur (24) tried his best but it just wasn’t DC’s day at the DY Patil Stadium.

Moeen Ali was the star of the evening with the ball as the Englishman grabbed three wickets in the second innings. Along with him, Dwayne Bravo, Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh also plucked two wickets each. Maheesh Theekshana’s name was also listed in the wickets section as he also took one wicket.

For DC, Anrich Nortje scalped three wickets in the first inning. Khaleel Ahmed was also rewarded with two wickets and with him, Marsh also got one wicket.

Devon Conway was adjudged Man of the Match for his scintillating batting performance. With this huge win, Chennai Super Kings are now eighth on the points table with eight points.
