IPL 2021: Takeaways from RCB’s Dominant victory over KKR

Royal Challengers Bangalore continued the dream run in IPL 2021, as they clinched the third consecutive win on Sunday by tearing Kolkata Knight Riders apart in all three departments of the game. After a poor start to the game, Glen Maxwell and Ab De Villiers helped Royal Challengers of Bangalore reach 204 which on a Chepauk wicket was always going to be difficult to chase. KKR had a decent start to the power play but they kept on losing wickets regularly which eventually led to a comfortable 38 run defeat. Here are some key takeaways from this game.

Glen Maxwell enjoying his best form in IPL

Glen Maxwell has played three significant knocks in a row for RCB and silenced the critics that claimed RCB had invested poorly by spending big money on him during IPL 2021 auction. Maxwell’s knock was special because it came under pressure on a tricky pitch. When he came on to bat, RCB had lost two wickets for nine runs. His sensible and explosive innings made sure RCB was always ahead in the game against KKR.

Shakib Al Hassan may get the drop

Shakib Al Hassan has failed to perform with both ball and bat for three games in a row now. On Sunday, he could only score 25 runs off 25 balls when the asking rate was ten runs per over. With the ball, he struggled as the Bangladeshi all-rounder gave away 24 runs in two overs without taking a wicket. Shakib Al Hasan might end up making way for Sunil Narine in the upcoming games due to his poor performances in three games.

Shubman Gill once again fails to convert a start

Yet another disappointing performance by Shubmall Gill. The youngster started off well but once again failed to convert the start into a significant knock. Gill endured a similar type of trend in his performances during IPL 2021. His inconsistency is a big problem as it puts a lot of pressure on the struggling middle order of KKR.

Andre Russell Position in the batting order

Andre Russell played good innings against RCB, but it came a little too late with no support from the other end. He has been the MVP for KKR in the past but is yet to find his form with the bat in IPL 2021. KKR management should promote him in the batting order so that he can get more time to make an impact. Russell is the only player in KKR’s batting lineup that has the ability to change the game in a couple of overs.
