IPL 2021: Takeaways from CSK’s dominating win against RCB

The winning run for Royal Challengers Bangalore was finally broken. Virat Kohli’s men could not maintain their 100 percent record in IPL 2021 against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. It was a devastating defeat as it had big implications on RCB’s net run rate. They dropped to the third position by the end of Sunday.

Chennai Super Kings turned back the clock on Sunday by clinching dominating win against RCB at Wankhede Stadium. There were many interesting takeaways from this game, so we decided to focus on the most significant takeaways.

It was a Jadeja Show

Ravindra Jadeja delivered a remarkable performance yesterday, as he smashed 62 off 28 balls, including an IPL record-equalling 37 runs with five towering sixes in the final over of the innings. This performance further highlighted the improvement from Jadeja in the batting department. He has become a more reliable batsman in the past two years for CSK and the Indian cricket team.

Along with the bat, Jadeja was also lethal with the ball. He took crucial wickets of Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers to break the back of RCB’s batting unit. Jadeja also managed to run out Dan Christian, making it a complete performance from the all-rounder on Sunday.

CSK Batsmen are hitting form in IPL 2021

Batting was a key headache for Chennai Super Kings last season. However, all key batsmen have started to click in IPL 2021. Another half-century for Faf du Plessis, while the cameo Suresh Raina was also positive. Ruturaj Gaikwad provided a solid start at the top of the order for CSK. Ambati Rayudu also played some attractive shots during his brief stay on the pitch, while Jadeja powered them to a match-winning total. If MS Dhoni also gets some runs under his belt, then it will be difficult to stop CSK in IPL 2021.

RCB dependent on Harshal Patel?

While the team had various promising bowlers on board, Harshal was the most successful bowler for RCB until the final over of the innings. He had brought RCB back in the game by taking wickets of Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis in the 14th over.

However, the final over of the innings spoiled his figures as he ended up with 3/51. Yuzvendra Chahal took the other wicket in CSK’s innings. Patel has managed to take 15 wickets this season. Apart from him, other RCB bowlers also need to step up in terms of taking wickets.
