IPL 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad toil hard in first intra-squad practice match

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is building up towards another strong IPL campaign as they step up preparation for IPL 2021 with intra-squad practice matches.  The Hyderabad-based franchise will be looking to lift their second title in the upcoming season. The first practice match for SRH took place on Wednesday between teams led by Jonny Bairstow and Manish Pandey.

SRH coach VVS Laxman was pleased with the rhythm shown by batsmen and bowlers after being in quarantine for seven days.  The former Indian batsman admitted that there is great energy and excitement in the squad for the start of the new squad.

Hyderabad fell short in the eliminator against Delhi Capitals last season. Despite an inconsistent start to the season, SRH managed to end the group stage strongly to finish third in the table. They have been the most consistent team along with Mumbai Indians in the last five seasons, qualifying for playoffs on every occasion. David Warner has led them brilliantly in IPL over the years. He will be hoping to continue this good run with a trophy this season.

Overview of the first match

Vijay Shankar starred with the bat for Manish Pandey’s XI, smashing an unbeaten 95 off 50 balls as they set a target of 170 runs. In reply, Jonny Bairstow’s XI could only manage 138 in their 20 overs. The second practice match is set to be played later today in Chennai. SRH has been training in Chennai for the last two weeks.

The first game of the season for SRH is set to take place against Kolkata Knight Riders at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The star players such as Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kane Williamson are under quarantine, but they are likely to be available for selection in the first game. SRH will also have Jason Roy in the squad for this season after he was announced as the replacement for Mitchell Marsh.
