IPL 2021: Player auction set to go ahead on February 18

Indian Premier League has confirmed the dates for the highly anticipated player auction ahead of the 2021 campaign. The mini-auction is set to take place on February 18 in Chennai. For the time being, teams can continue to trade players between them as the trade window is set to close on February 4.

It is likely to be a lowkey affair since it will be a mini-auction. Teams will be looking to add finishing touches to the squad during this auction after submitting the retention list last week. Despite being a smaller auction, there would be a host of high-profile players that will go under the hammer after being released by their respective franchises.

Kings XI Punjab is expected to be the busiest franchise during this auction as they have a purse in excess of Rs 50 crores to spend. Rajasthan Royals also have enough money in the purse to make big moves this year, while Delhi Capitals has the smallest purse worth Rs 9 crores to spend during the auction.

Teams will have to think short term during this auction as IPL will be having a very big auction next year when there will be the introduction of the ninth team. Along with getting star players, teams will also look to get young Indian talent to assemble a squad that can stop Mumbai Indians from making three titles in a row.
