IPL 2021 Phase 2: Three crucial players for Mumbai Indians

The five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians has acquired the fourth spot in the VIVO IPL 2021 with eight points in eight games. They commenced phase 2 of the competition with a 20-run defeat against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday

Mumbai Indians is known for making a spectacular comeback, with the inclusion of captain Rohit Sharma from the next fixture, the defending champions will aim for a series of comprehensive victories.

As the second phase of IPL 2021 has kicked off, let’s have a look at the three players who could be crucial for the star-studded MI.

1. Rohit Sharma 

Regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world, the skipper Rohit Sharma will be key in the quest for Mumbai Indians to qualify for the playoffs and possibly winning their sixth IPL title. 

Rohit Sharma boasts an amazing record of 5480 runs in 207 matches, with a strike rate of 130.5 and an average of 31.49 runs. The star Indian opener carried MI’s batting line-up in the first phase and would want to continue his form in the second phase upon his return.  

2. Keiron Pollard 

The West Indies skipper, Keiron Pollard’s batting prowess will once again be one of the most important factors of the Mumbai-based franchise. 

Year after year, Pollard has shown his importance by playing crucial knocks and rescuing MI from the jaws of defeat. 

With 3206 runs in 172 matches along with 63 wickets, Pollard’s all round skills with the ball and bat makes him a major threat for the opponents. 

3. Jasprit Bumrah 

A danger to any batting unit in the world, one of the best bowlers in the world with his unorthodox action, Jasprit Bumrah is Mumbai Indians’ prime pacer on any given day.

Bumrah has 117 wickets in 100 matches in his IPL career with an economy of 7.40 runs. Bumrah has repeatedly proved himself in the death overs for MI and he will once again be Rohit Sharma’s go-to bowler in the latter stage of the innings.

Mumbai Indians lost their first match phase 2 against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday and they will play against Kolkata Knight Riders on 23rd September.
