IPL 2021 Phase 2 PBKS vs RR: Kartik Tyagi guides Rajasthan Royals to a staggering victory

RR has acquired the fifth spot with eight points while PBKS are at the seventh position with six points.

In the 32nd match of the IPL 2021, Rajasthan Royals pulled off an unexpected victory against Punjab Kings by two runs. Kartik Tyagi’s brilliant execution of yorkers helped RR to defend four runs in the final over of the game. RR 185/10, Arshdeep Singh (5/32). PBKS 183/4, Mayank Agarwal (67), Kartik Tyagi (2/29).

Rajasthan Royals were put to bat by Punjab Kings, the former had an exciting start to their powerplay. Yashasvi Jaiswal (49) and Evin Lewis (36) gave a flyer start to RR. The openers stitched an attacking partnership of 54 before Lewis was caught by Mayank Agarwal in Arshdeep Singh’s over. In the first six overs, RR registered 57 runs at the loss of one wicket. The Rajasthan-based franchise was looking forward to a target of above 200 but they started losing wickets at regular intervals and had to settle for 186 in their allotted 20 overs. In the second innings, defending the competitive target of 186 was looking difficult for the one-time IPL winners as the PBKS openers started their counter-attack from the first over itself. The Punjab openers registered a partnership of 120, which set the momentum for the chase. With every passing over, the run rate dropped down for Punjab as they were inching closer towards victory. The game went till the last over, four runs were needed for Punjab with eight wickets in hand. The match was headed towards a final over drama. Tyagi managed to pocket two wickets and conceded just one run throughout the over and helped Rajasthan win the nail-biting thriller by two runs.

Rahul (49) and Agarwal were the major contributors with the bat for Punjab as their opening partnership got PBKS into the game.

Tyagi was the pick among the bowlers as he grabbed two wickets while Rahul Tewatia and Sakariya had one scalp to their name.

With this victory, RR have acquired the fifth spot with eight points while PBKS are at the seventh position with six points.
