Mumbai Indians have been off to a rocky start in phase 2 of the tournament, losing all three of their matches so far. Quinton De Kock and skipper Rohit Sharma’s performances are the only positive for Mumbai Indians with the bat. They will have to go all out and win the match against Punjab Kings if they want to keep themselves in contention of the playoffs. The Mumbai-based franchise has acquired the seventh spot in IPL standings with eight points in ten games.
Punjab Kings currently stands in fifth place in the IPL table with eight points in ten games. They won their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday and lost earlier to Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. Punjab has a robust batting line-up with the likes of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle along with the veteran Mohammed Shami leading the bowling attack. PBKS has all the ingredients to play a good brand of cricket and qualify for the playoffs.
Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians have faced each other on 27 occasions. MI won 14 of those matches while PBKS emerging victorious on 13 occasions.
The last time both the teams faced each other was back in April as PBKS won the match by nine wickets in phase 1 of the tournament.
