IPL 2021 Phase 2: Delhi Capitals sign Ben Dwarshuis as Chris Woakes’ replacement

Woakes picked up five wickets in three matches in phase 1 of the competition.

Delhi Capitals has announced the uncapped Australian bowler Ben Dwarshuis as Chris Woakes’ replacement for phase 2 of IPL.

The English cricketer was one of the most important bowlers in the Delhi Capitals’ squad. Woakes picked up five wickets in three matches in phase 1 of the competition. 

Delhi Capitals released a statement saying, “The Delhi Capitals have announced Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis as Woakes’ replacement for the remainder of the IPL 2021 season. Dwarshuis will be joining the Delhi Capitals team bio-bubble in the UAE soon. The 27-year-old, who plays for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, is the sixth-highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament with 85 wickets in 69 matches.” 

IPL franchises are in a fix after ECB announced that none of the English players will be available for the playoffs of phase 2 of IPL 2021. 

All the franchises are looking to replace the English players in their teams. Bairstow, Woakes & Malan pulled out citing ‘personal reasons’ leaving the concerned franchises in a tough situation. None of the franchises had an idea about the withdrawals of these players. As last-minute replacements, Sunrisers Hyderabad has announced Sherfane Rutherford as a replacement for Bairstow & Punjab Kings has roped in Aiden Markram for Dawid Malan. 

Dwarshuis, who plays for Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League has 100 wickets in 82 T20 matches with an average of 23.73.

DC will be playing their first fixture of the second phase on 22nd September against Sunrisers Hyderabad at 7:30 PM IST at the Dubai International Stadium.
