IPL 2021: KKR coach likely to bring Sunil Narine in the team

As KKR lost their second consecutive game in IPL 2021, Coach Brendon McCullum said that the team probably needed some fresh legs and plans. He added that they may make a couple of changes for the next game. McCullum admitted that the plans were right in place but the missed execution cost them the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.

Morgan’s decision of not giving Varun Chakravarthy an extra over, while Maxwell was batting has come under intense scrutiny. Varun had taken two wickets in his first over but him not getting the second one cost them.

This decision has raised questions about the playing eleven. KKR has still not included Sunil Narine in the team in order to make space for Shakib Al Hasan.

Speaking about the same, Brendon said that Narine wasn’t fit enough in the first two games and although he was available for the game against RCB, the team decided to give Shakib a chance as the latter was in good form and would provide them with a batting edge against RCB.

“Sunil Narine stood on the ropes, he had a bit of injury where he wasn’t 100% fit. He certainly comes into our calculation, he was touch and go for today’s game. We opted for Shakib, who has been good for us and gives us that batting edge as well.”

However, Shakib failed to perform against RCB as he leaked 24 runs in his two overs. In addition, he couldn’t contribute much with the bat too as he scored 26 runs off 25 balls in a situation when the team was chasing a total of 205 runs.

The right-arm bowler from West Indies has been a regular member of the side but ever since he was forced to correct his action to prevent sanctions for bowling with an ‘illegal action’ KKR have not opted to utilize the services of the all-rounder, which would actually prove beneficial given that KKR needs players in Chase and to stabilize their current middle order. KKR plays their next match in IPL 2021 against CSK in Mumbai.
