IPL 2021: Gowtham relishing the dream of playing under MS Dhoni at CSK

Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham is looking forward to bowling under MS Dhoni. The veteran all-rounder believes that Dhoni keeping behind the stumps is every bowlers dream due to his understanding of the game.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Gowtham lauded CSK for the clarity of thought across the franchise. The Karnataka all-rounder is set to be a vital part of CSK’s setup as they look to get title number four under Dhoni’s captaincy.

“Bowlers love playing under Mahi Bhai because he understands a bowler’s strengths and knows how to get the best out of him. The CSK management understands cricket owing to its long association with the game which again reflects in its approach to players – the comforting words and confidence given when things aren’t going right.”

Gowtham made history during IPL 2021 auction in February. He entered the auction at the base price of Rs 50 lakhs but ended up joining Chennai Super Kings for Rs 9.25 crore. The 32-year-old all-rounder became most expensive uncapped player in the history of IPL.

The all-rounder from Karnataka is known for his power hitting down the order and tight spin bowling middle order. Gowtham has played 24 matches in IPL until now,  picking up 13 wickets in the process. He played for Rajasthan Royals in 2018 and 2019 before moving to Punjab Kings in 2020.

Along with Gowtham, CSK also spent big money on English all-rounder Moeen Ali. Both players will be expected to provide much needed power hitting in CSK’s middle order. CSK is currently training in Mumbai where they play their first five matches of the 2021 VIVO edition beginning with a game against Delhi Capitals on April 10.

The current group of experienced players in CSK setup are likely to play last IPL together. There is going to be a mega auction in 2022, so Dhoni will be looking for one final triumph with these players in 2021.
