IPL 2021: Expensive players fail to deliver in RR vs PBKS match

Despite the match between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings being a thriller show, the top buys from both the teams failed to deliver for what they were worth in the fourth match of IPL 2021. Players like Chris Morris, Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith were unable meet the expectations as they found it difficult to adjust.

The most expensive purchase in the history of Indian Premier League, Chris Morris, who was roped in by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 16.25 crore, failed to leave a mark in his debut for the franchise. Though he managed to have a decent bowling start getting two wickets initially, he was made ineffective in the death overs where he gave away 25 runs in the 16th and 18th overs, who was inflicted 41 runs in 4 overs. The all-rounder also found it difficult to settle whilst batting in the most decisive moments of the match, where he just managed to make 2 runs in 4 balls.

From the Punjab side, the Australian big purchases Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith who were bought for Rs 14 crore and Rs 8 crore during the IPL 2021 auction, also failed to make an impression in their debut. With the worst economy amongst the Punjab bowlers, the Aussie duo was smashed by a total of 104 runs by the opponents. Both of them managed to pick a wicket each, but at the expense of incessant boundaries and maximums where Richardson gave away 54 runs in 4 overs, while Meredith got hammered by 49 runs in the same amount of overs.

Along with Morris, Shivam Dube, who was bought for a hefty Rs 4.4 crore, was equally unable meet the hype as he managed to hit just 23 runs. The all-rounder was left off from the bowling department after his single over gave away 20 runs.

Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings will face off each other for their second leg on May 22, where the latter will seek for the retribution.
