IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals partner with Horizm to boost digital media returns

Ahead of IPL 2021, Delhi Capitals has signed an agreement with Horizm to boost their digital media returns. According to the contract, Delhi Capitals will use Horizm’s AI-powered, real time solution to understand, value and monetize the team’s social media presence.

Since DC has around 11 million followers across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, partnering up with Horizm can help them earn more revenue via the social media channels. DC’s growth on these platforms skyrocketed in IPL 2020 when the team registered the highest number of video views (370 million) across Facebook and Instagram globally during September-October. As their digital fan base increased by 32% on Facebook, IPL 2020 runner-ups also secured the highest growth among all teams during the previous edition.

Commenting on the new partnership, Vinod Bisht, Director and CEO, Delhi Capitals said, “At Delhi Capitals, we believe in the ‘Fans First’ policy, and digital platforms are crucial for us to engage with them throughout the year. The need for remote engagement was accentuated during the pandemic, when fans were restricted to their homes. I believe our association with Horizm will empower us with tools to not only reach out to our fans better, but also unlock several commercial opportunities.”

Sam Grimley, Head of Sales, Horizm said, “It’s a huge privilege to welcome the Delhi Capitals to the Horizm family – undoubtedly one of the most exciting franchises in the IPL, both on and off the field. We look forward to working with Team DC and help maximise the returns on their growing digital footprint.”

Horizm is quite active in the sports industry and has provided a real time solution to various sports’ rights holders to monetize their digital inventory. Popular global football clubs such as Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and more recently, Chelsea FC are on Horizm’s client list. Horizm has also worked with Australian Open, Caribbean Premier League, the International Hockey League, and the International Volleyball Federation.

With Delhi Capitals being the first IPL franchise to sign up with Horizm, the company has taken first step in  further improving presence on digital and social media platform in the highly-lucrative league. The growth of the IPL over the past 13 seasons has been remarkable and the T20 cricket tournament is now one of the select few international sports leagues which has a social media audience of 100 million followers across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
