IPL 2021: Chris Woakes pleased with environment at Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) made a winning start to IPL 2021 under the leadership of new captain Rishabh Pant. English pacer Chris Woakes is enjoying his time with DC after making his debut for the franchise last weekend against Chennai Super Kings.

After taking two wickets in his debut game along with bowling an economical spell, Woakes told DCTV about his feeling towards the franchise. Woakes is pleased with the good environment and vibe at Delhi Capitals.

The Englishman was roped in by former record champions Kolkata Knight Riders for a price of Rs 4.2 crores, during the IPL Auction 2017. He proved his worth by picking up 17 wickets in just 13 matches.  Woakes was eventually released back into auction and Delhi Capitals picked him in IPL 2020 auction for Rs 1.5 crores. The 32-year-old all-rounder opted out of the tournament last year due to personal reasons. Delhi Capitals brought in Anrich Nortje as Woakes’ replacement last year. After Nortje’s success last season, Delhi eventually decided to retain both players.

DC won their previous match against three-time champions Chennai Super Kings with relative ease. In terms of bowling, it was a great start for Rishabh Pant’s side as they picked up two early wickets. However, during the middle overs, they struggled to contain runs and take wickets to halt CSK’s momentum. They did blow away CSK by chasing the mammoth total of 187 inside 19 overs.

Delhi managed to send a message across to all teams that they mean business this year as Pant’s side outplayed Dhoni’s side. They need to build momentum if they want to go for the title and the players need to step up whenever the team is relying on them to deliver. They are going to face Rajasthan Royals in their second match of IPL 2021 at the Wankhede Stadium.
