IPL 2021: Ashish Nehra bemoans Delhi Capitals’ bowling plans against Royals

After a poor start to the first half of the game, Delhi Capitals came back into the match by picking up three wickets in the powerplay. Under Pressure, Rajasthan was not able to build a single partnership and almost found themselves out of the game by the 16th over. However, Chris Morris inspired the Royals to a much-needed victory.

Rishab Pant’s captaincy was under scanner after the loss. By the 13th over, Rajasthan Royals were already six wickets down and still had to get over 11 runs per over, Delhi capitals had the perfect chance to put the game to bed by bringing in Rabada, but Pant went for Stoinis who was punished by David Miller. That was the over which shifted the momentum of the game.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who was bowling at a good economy rate, was also not given the chance to complete his spell. Rishabh Pant certainly missed the trick as he could have given Ashwin another over as the two batsmen on the crease that time were both left-handers (Miller and Tewatia).

While talking to Cricbuzz, Nehra said “When Tewatia got out and Miller and Morris paired up, then you had the choice to deploy Ashwin. Royals were six down then and had Ashwin taken another on at that point of time, DC would have won the game there itself.”

Even Delhi Capital’s coach  Ricky Ponting was disappointed, he also believed that Ashwin should have finished off his spell. Ponting also believed that dew played a major role because of which the bowlers failed to execute the plan as getting a proper grip of the ball was getting difficult.

Rishabh Pant certainly did impress by playing a mature knock and it would not be a surprise if he learns from his mistakes quickly and help Delhi get back to winning ways. Delhi Capitals will lock horns with Punjab Kings in their next IPL 2021 game on 18th April.
