Indian Women to play test match against Australia in September

After scheduling a test match against England next month, the Indian women’s team is also going to face Australia in test cricket later this year. For the first time in 15 years, Indian women will play a test match in Australia. Moreover, 2021 going to be the first year since 2014 that India will play two test matches in a calendar year. India is set to tour Australia in September, reports ESPNcricinfo. Both BCCI and Cricket Australia are yet to confirm the series. 

Along with a single test match, both teams will also play the white ball series. The details are yet to be announced by Cricket Australia or BCCI. The last time Indian women played a test series against Australia was in Adelaide in 2006. Indian women’s team has played five tests in total against Australia. The Australian team has won four games, while one was a draw.

Before the tour of Australia, Indian women will play a test in Bristol which would commence from June 16 against England. The series against England would be their first overseas test series in nearly seven years. It will also be the first tour for them since the pandemic began in 2020.

Mithali Raj will be leading the team in both test matches this year as she had done in 2014. The news about India’s Downunder tour was revealed by Australian fast bowler Megan Schutt, who was talking to a podcast named No Balls: The Cricket Podcast. She said that their next assignment would be at home against India and they would prepare in the camp in Darwin. 

The tour of England will be the first big assignment of the newly appointed head coach, Ramesh Powar. BCCI has recently appointed Shiv Sundar Das as their batting coach for the tour of England and let’s see how they are going to train and perform under a decorated batting coach in such an important series.
